About

In the beginning

Having always helped our mum bake when we were younger, we first started baking again as a hobby in 2013. We soon started selling cupcakes at craft fairs around the county and personal orders soon followed. Our range quickly expanded to include brownies and other tray bakes, along with custom celebration cakes.

And then came the Cafe

The Youngs have been at Oare Creek since 1974 when our dad, Terry, and grandad, Bert, started running the boatyard and ‘Youngboats’ was born. The idea of opening a cafe at the boatyard was first raised in 2016. Building work commenced at the start of 2018 and the Cafe was due to open in March 2020. Then COVID-19 came along.

We were forced to delay our opening and started taking online orders for our popular lockdown treat boxes. Eventually able to open in June 2020 for takeaways only, we were finally able to open as envisioned in July 2020. This was a massive milestone for us and a huge testament to the support given by our family.

The area surrounding Oare Creek is great for getting out and about and is very popular with walkers, cyclists and bird watchers. We are dog-friendly so why not bring along your fury friend and explore the area.

Meet the family

Sarah

Sarah is the innovator at the cafe, always experimenting with new bakes to expand our range. When she is not baking, Sarah can be found with her two dogs, Jasper and Dougie. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of Jasper and Dougie hanging out at the boatyard.

Becca

Becca has the creative flare and is responsible for bringing our custom cakes to life. When she is not at the cafe, Becca is busy looking after her two children, Duncan and Lorna.

Glenis & Terry (Mum and Dad)

Glenis and Terry run the boatyard and can also be found helping out in the cafe. Outside of work they enjoy taking to the water on their narrow boat.
